Religious Education Classes
Kindergarten-Grade 1 (ages 5-7)
Wonderful Welcome: In this program, children identify intangible gifts central to Unitarian Universalism such as friendship, hospitality and fairness, and share these gifts with others. This curriculum engages and challenges leaders and children alike to explore how and why we are willing to welcome others into our lives. We welcome not only strangers, but family, our peers, our neighbors and even entities that are not people such as our animal friends and nature itself.
Grades 4-6 (ages 10-12)
Toolbox of Faith: What tools does Unitarian Universalism offer for the challenges of life? Children discover what aspects of UU faith are helpful to them, developing a toolbox of faith. Toolbox of Faith invites participants to reflect on the qualities of our Unitarian Universalist faith, such as integrity, courage, and love, as tools they can use in living their lives and building their own faith.
Grades 2-3 (ages 7-9)
Moral Tales: Every day our children go forth into a complex world where they are often faced with difficult decisions and situations. Moral T ales attempts to provide children with the spiritual and ethical tools they will need to make choices and take actions reflective of their Unitarian Universalist beliefs and values. As Kevin Ryan and Karen Bohlin suggest in their book, Building Character in Schools (San Francisco: Jossey-Bass Publishers, 1999), stories such as the ones woven throughout Moral T ales can activate and inform children's learning about how to make moral choices.
Grades 7-9 (ages 12-15)
Our Whole Lives (OWL): Our Whole Lives is a sexuality education curricula developed for six age groups. This year, we are offering the grade 7-9 curriculm. This program helps participants make informed and responsible decisions about their sexual health and behavior. It equips participants with accurate, age- appropriate information in six subject areas: human development, relationships, personal skills, sexual behavior, sexual health, and society and culture. Grounded in a holistic view of sexuality, Our Whole Lives not only provides facts about anatomy and human development, but also helps participants clarify their values, build interpersonal skills, and understand the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of sexuality. This will be a Sunday evening program.
